Commercials
Today's fieldwork session went well in the fourth
grade classroom. Fieldwork group number three presented a direct instruction lesson on the art of making a commercial. The students seemed engaged in the material and asked well thought out questions referring to commercials and their terminology.
I thought fieldwork group three was successful at keeping the students' attention. I thought showing the Monster Inc. commercial twice was a good teaching strategy to use in the commercial lesson. By showing it before teaching, group number three was able to see the companies' prior knowledge on commercials. By showing the same commercial a second time, the companies saw what they were learning. To improve this lesson, I would have provided the students with a guided practice. There was really no part of the lesson that allowed group three to see if the companies were understanding the material. I would also use more student friendly language. Some of the terms used were a little too complex for fourth grade students. Overall, group three did a good job.
For the first time, I think the fieldwork group were prepared and successful in their lesson Just like the rest of us, the major issue was time. As a class, as a whole, I think we are doing great! The project is moving along nicely.
ANIMOTO: Keep in mind this website for making commercials:)
